CLIENT NAME: The MC
Family The entire concrete floor slab was jack hammered and discarded. To increase head room, we dug up several dozens of cubic yard of dirt. Temporary support was erected, so that all three existing steel columns (posts), had to be replaced with longer ones, along with new, lower post footings. New, more elaborate oak treads stairs along with a landing and access on both sides completed the work. The entire floor was finished with an 18" ceramic tile. The laundry room was relocated next to the boiler, and a new half bathroom occupied the space where the laundry area used to be. A future wet bar adjacent to the bathroom was roughed-in. A previously sealed-off crawl space was made accessible by sawing an opening into the concrete foundation wall and turn the wasted space into a valuable cold storage room. The scope of work also called for replacing the narrow door with 10' of glass, meaning 6' French doors sandwiched between fixed, stationary glass panels. In addition, two large windows were added. Not only all that glass brought "the outside inside", but it made everything of course much brighter and the backyard so much more inviting... And the view.... In fact, the view would not be half of what it is now without the extensive work done to the backyard; Several additional tons of dirt were hauled away to accommodate a 430 SF stone patio, retaining walls and steps. Drainage was provided using simple means: gravity. The final touch included a walkway and landscaping. PROJECT DESIGNER and/or
